I have a client who has transferred one of my systems to 64 bit Windows 7
It runs fine on my own Windows 7 laptop
He gets a message that says
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows
you're running. Check
your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit)
or x64 (64 bit)
version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
Is there something I can do or advise my client?

Have you checked the compatablity setting on the client's machine?

On my Win7 64bit system, I right clicked on the vfp.exe and then clicked the
compatablity tab.
It said Win XP sp2.

Can you give us more info, i.e. where exactly he gets this error? I have distributed VFP9 apps on Windows 7 64 bits and they run without problems, so it must be something else, not the VFP's exe.

We have quite a few VFP9 SP2 systems running on Win7 now with no problems. We did not make one change in our program to
accomodate Win7 vs XP pro. Vista is crap, but so far, Win7 seems to be ok. In fact, we are now telling people that Win7
works ok, the only thing we suggest is a minimum of 4gb memory. I admit we are really gun-shy after having to deal with
VistaCrap - easily the worst OS since ME if you can even call it a OS. I guess M$ shelled out a few dollars to do some
testing before they threw Win7 at the public. Nice, for a change.

I seem to recall Rick saying that Win7 is nearly the same as Vista? No
doubt I'm mistaken (somewhat). It's late. You can search the archives
if desired.
Glad it's working out for you! The PR is definitely better for Win7 vs
Vista, that's for sure.

The expectations for Vista were set so high. It was Longhorn this, Longhorn that
almost a decade before it was finally released. It was bound to fail from the beginning.
Windows 7 does seem to be a half-decent operating system. Good thing for Microsoft,
given the other choices available now and coming just around the bend.

Yeah I said Win 7 is like Vista SP3 because it is refined and Microsoft
listened to the customers who had legitimate gripes on some fit and finish,
and some performance issues. Some people tried it on underpowered equipment
and found it painful (in fairness the original specs for a Vista Compatible
box were underpowered). Some did not like the User Account Control. Others
tried Vista and did not like the UI changes. But most people read that
others thought it stunk and were sheep and repeated. Most of the people I
have heard complain wanted to find a reason to complain. It kicked Microsoft
in the butt and they responded just as I predicted. I have been using Vista
for more than a year and adapted and like it a lot.
I have several netbooks running Windows 7 on a 1GB of RAM and an Atom
processor (not the fastest thing around) and the OS runs fine with several
browsers open and even MS Office apps (all pigs). I did the Anytime Upgrade
to Ultimate on one and Pro on the other. Sure it is not as snappy as my
Vista box with 3GBs of RAM and a fast processor, but it works remarkably
well on low powered hardware. VFP apps will run well too as they do not need
much RAM either.

I have an issue or two so far with windows 7. Not 64 bit, but I see shortcut
menus where some of the items do not appear until the mouse is put over the
text. I also have problems with teechart 7 with C05's that did not happen in
XP.
