Had an email from a feller who needs to do the above, existing VFP
application, author has left. Don't know if they have source code or
what have you - I presume they do.
>From a whois lookup they're based in Thorndike, Maine.
Anyone who's interested in the details hit me up with an email.

Sure, but there may be considerations with uplifting it to VFP9, ActiveX
controls in use, database locations to be changed (or heaven forfend,
hardcoded in), printers etc.
I suspect it's an in-house LOB application that has grown over time and
doesn't have an installer etc.

You just need the correct client to access the proper data source for VFP
to use as it connects. They are different between 2000, 2008, 2008, 2012,
2014

I used to work all over that area.
can't remember what is up there as most of the mills closed down.
there are some seed companies up there.
nice place, but cold this time of year
I'd tell you to give them my contact info, but I'm afraid all my utilities
will be shut off soon which is going to leave me dead in the water.

Most certainly does. We recently switched over to W2008R2 from SBS2003 and
it was pretty much just copy over. Since we used mostly mapped drives, it
was no problem. Other places where we used UNC naming, we did have to
change the server name in the UNC paths we used in code. We put all the
runtimes and dependent files in the application's folder, we didn't even
have to install anything, just copy and done.

That is no problem for the VFP 9 SP2 code. We have done it several
times. We even have some DBI ole components that work fine. We found
nothing special or different about going from XP -> Win7 -> 2003 > 2008,
etc everything works with no changes at all. We have clients with 2012
server and they all work with no changes.

This is what I would have thought. I have mainly web services running on
2008 but I do have one running an exe. And no problems at all. In fact win
8.1 with its missing drives, then they appear, then go is more of a bugbear
