The links are there. But, you were referring to a Pic - and I thought

maybe that was the issue.

But - I think - in the end - Al was simply joking - and it had nothing

to do with a missing link - he just didn't want to open it!

OK - time for me to go back to sleep...

Naw, it's all my fault..

Been through about a thousand videos today with some changes I'm doing to

kaaw.

Throw in my access class, pre test, test, and assignments.

And then add in my accounting class that has to be done tonight that

consists of 3 assignments, pre test, and test that I haven't even started

on.

Well, I just assumed that it would carry through, and after seeing the link

that ted sent me, I realize that it doesn't..

Oh well, we needed something to break the monotony of a 3 day weekend...

Never heard of vfpx.

Is this it?

http://vfpx.codeplex.com/

If so, once I get this figured out, it might be something to add

http://keepamericaatwork.com/vjb_chart_test.html

I'm wanting to chart sensors and use these for a display.

Basically use python, raspberry pi, and arduino to read sensors.

Then ftp the latest data to my kaaw server.

Use python to poll the empty folder, and when it finds something new, parse

the data and plug it into mysql.

Then, anytime somebody clicks on that page (for example), they will be able

to see the latest data (with options for historical data as well)

Going to be awhile though as I need to make enough to get my electricity

hooked up first, and then buy the equipment.

Luckily raspberry pi, arduino, etc., are fairly cheap.

The sensors will be the interesting part, although reading this guys site, I

believe that is doable as well as he shows how to build the sensors cheap.

I have an Oregon scientific weather station and use cumulus for the software

side. It's neat but maybe not as cheap. I do have a Pi and I think it's a

great bit of kit for the money. Not looked into arduino though. I would like

one day, when I have central heating again, to have it controlled by a

computer and it seems a good cheap choice.

I'm surprised anyone on profox has not heard of vfpx, and yes that's the

one. There are some great ideas there including the charts which might work

for you. The only problem with such things as vfpx is they are changing even

when done. Seems like they are never done and it makes it hard to use when

they have to be updated a lot. If that makes sense. Still very much worth a

look.

Thanks.

I hadn't heard of vfpx because I've been pretty well out of work for the

most part since 2003.

Haven't even seen a contract using fp since 2009.

For the most part, I was working my way out of development and into

management back around 2000 because I saw more and more developer jobs being

sent offshore (figured management would be safer, but I was wrong <grin>)

I have a copy of vfp here and for the most part, I think I would like to

develop the majority of the application using vfp.

At least the part that is local.

Problem is, that would knock out the raspberry and arduino and require a lot

more money which I have none of.

Go to kaaw and enter arduino in the search box.

I have seen some very nice youtube video's come across about people doing

the same things that you are talking about.

Here is another area I would like to experiment with as funds become

available.

http://www.n3fjp.com/solar/faq.htm

If this works as he says it does, I wouldn't even need a hot water heater

here in cental texas.
