it'll be great on touch-screens, but business and home users are not
going to be using touch for meat-and-potatoes computer usage.

Over time your statement will no longer be correct.
In that we will get better at design of UI than the morph from the old
green screen to what we have currently.
Sure we will need input devices, but I think that they will change as
well. The lock of the typewriter type of device might break within
the next ten years.
Today you could Blue tooth to another device, maybe in the very near
future you could use your phone's keypad instead? What if you were at
a display at say a trade show. You walk up and touch it to get to the
input UI and your phone was the keyboard.
With that in mind I think that Google and M$ are really pushing
forward with the single OS that works in the tablet as well as the
personal computer (phone, tablet, laptop, desktop)

"for meat-and-potatoes computer usage." --- which I would say is most
business apps outside of residential customer use.

I'll take that bet. No dramatic UI change in next 10 years for non
residential customer usage.

Shoot me if that becomes the norm. I *HATE* using my phone for
keyboarding/texting.

On that I'll agree with you.

I know a few people who only use a tablet today. They have a keyboard
for it but it is used only when a long typing session is necessary.
They love the freedom, less weight to carry, smaller, etc.
These people are the power of the company they represent or own. Not
9 to 5 ers.

You kinda answered this yourself---they're the exception/minority/1%,
not the norm/bulk/rest-of-us. <g>

I'm old fashioned--I like to use my phone for phone and text, but not
much else. I've got a Blackberry. It's fine for me. :)

and as recently as say 10 years ago they had a secretary to work their
phone and print out their emails, in Europe they probably still can't
type, and wherever they are I'll bet there is some PA nearby to smooth
their path
They'll soon believe absolutely that touch-screens and the Cloud can
achieve everything, and that will be another nail in the coffin of
Corporate data and core systems integrity.

Things are changing faster than you might think, because you keep thinking of them as underpowered computers instead of serving a completely separate and potentially much bigger market. For example:
( -or- http://j.mp/AtR3ls )
I almost never take my laptop to a meeting. I can do just about anything I need to do with my iPad, and it's so light I take it everywhere.
