Let's face it, Ed, that 'Metro' stuff is for small touchscreens - i.e.,
smart phones and xpads. Can you see an insurance company with a roomful
of clerks entering data on a 'virtual keyboard'?
Seems to me that MS' goal is to cover both the desktop and portable
markets with a single OS. If they succeed, it will be a good idea.
That's a great webpage, tho!

Based on the little bit I've seen and read about it, it seems to me that's the direction Apple is headed with Lion, too.

I only see disaster coming from Mordor. One Ring to bind them will
defeat the Borg.
If they keep the PhoneOS and make a Tablet OS that is customized to
tablet life it is a win. Sure make the "pc" version as well.
In that concept I use a term version. If you scale the os to the
device you might make that device better. I would not want to use the
phone to work on spreadsheet or word docs. I would like to use the
tablet for those but not for mouse intensive operations.
I see M$ screwing the pooch with this next release.

Isn't that Microsoft's track record with OS'? Make a mess with every other version of Windows, and clean it up in the one after that?
Windows ME (What a mess)
XP
Vista (An even bigger mess)
Windows 7
... next?

The real action for Microsoft might come from its improved Window Server
8 OS, which should give commercial versions of Linux and Unix OS(s) like
Redhat, SUSE, and Macs running osX more competition. Window Server 8
also targets VMware and other proprietary offerings from
hardware/software giants like IBM and HP. It will also compete with
third parties that offer cloud computing; because, it offers the cloud
within an enterprise.

It's probably aimed at the Metro UI, for touchscreen devices, which
apparently doesn't allow overlapping windows. As opposed to say iOS on
the iPad which doesn't allow multiple windows at all. But the cartoonist
obviously didn't want to let facts get in the way of a half-informed
troll.

Still, it is funny and maybe not 100% accurate, just 99.99999% accurate
