Anybody have any recommendations for web-sites, books, etc for getting
started in ASP.NET?

www.LearnVisualStudio.com the best value. A book will run you 25-50
and can only cover so much. The range of HOW TO videos at this site
would require at least 6-15 books. You can get a lifetime membership
for ???, I spent 99.00 many years ago not sure what it is today. It
is great to listen, and hear what is happening as the video
progresses. You also get the videos code as well.
You can put these on an iPad or Zune and use them where ever you are.
Waiting in line at the DMV is a great place to view one because you
have time to kill.
.NET is a pretty BIG animal. You have to decide what part of it you
want to learn. WEB - Local Client. Language you want to code in, C#,
VB, F#, .... Web Services or a Data Access Library. I see 4 possible
books there just to get started. These videos will cover it all
nowadays.
I would steer clear of any VFP add on to .NET paid for or free. Learn
to do .NET and then adapt your skills from your FP background. The
hardest part is trying to make the web act like VFP. Sorry but it is
similar to caring for cats and dogs. They both act differently.

It doesn't look like they have a book for 2010 yet. I've enjoyed how the
Murach's book flow.

I signed on last year for $99. Highly recommended.
How did you capture the files? The content is streaming and there no
download option that I know of, Perhaps that has changed over time, but it
would be nice to watch the videos at lunchtime where I have my notebook
accessable but no internet access.

Thanks, Steve. It's mostly going to be C#, but it's the web side I'm most
unfamiliar with. I need the jump start there. I'm more of a "hands-on"
type of learner, but videos may work for me, too. I just don't want to get
into the "get it done now", I want to really learn what it is I'm doing, not
just put the immediate fire out.

Thanks, Tracy. I've been doing SSRS (VS2008) and Unit Testing (VS2010) for
a few months now, so the Visual Studio paradigm isn't brand new to me. I've
done some C# in the past, but it now looks like C# and ASP.NET will be
consuming my time for the foreseeable future. C#, not a big problem as at
least I have some experience, but the ASP.NET is zero experience.

I would second Stephen's recommendation. I've got a lifetime account back in
2007 (it was 99 USD at that time) and never regretted the decision. Bob is

I looked at this again, since you brought this up. It looks promising, and
not a bad price for what you can get.
Fred, it has a Hands On ASP.NET MVC Series. I might be looking into
acquiring this for myself. The LearnDevNow is streaming to a SilverLight
application which requires the Windows Media Player to be up to date. Not a
big deal, except my media player on one machine was misbehaving and the
video wouldn't play.
