[NF] Can't send email with Outlook

Hello,

I just started having a problem sending email using Outlook. It was working fine 2 days ago.

I can receive email no problem, just can't send. I have this same problem on my computer and my wifes.

I called the IP and they say it is not their problem and to call Microsoft ...

I am sending this email thru the IP's web email system, so sending works thru the website just not Outlook

Anyone have a guess ??

Thanks,

Kent

Kent:

This, most likely, is a function of your ISP blocking outgoing mail because=

your outgoing mail server is not theirs.

For example, I have a cable TV broadband connection. My email outgoing serv=

er from them is mail.cable.com. But by primary mail account is mail.primary=

.com. If you have mail.primary.com as your outgoing server it will be block=

ed by the ISP because it is only looking for mail.cable.com as the outbound=

mail server..

It has something to do with relaying and the ISP is trying to cut down on s=

pam generation from 3rd party mail.

If you keep you incoming mail server the same and change the mail server to=

your ISP account all will be ok.

I deal with this all the time with our scouts trying to send and receive em=

ail to the NJ Devils with their ISP. It is blocked every time but the inbou=

nd mail is ok.

Would sending through Blat be an option instead of Outlook? When using

Outlook, you're at the mercy of their security settings and the

application. These things can change any time that Outlook is updated.

Hello Jack,

I solved the problem. My ISP won't admit it but they changed the way my

email account settings have to be set. I had to change to SSL and put in my

email address and password.

Thanks for your help,

Kent

They changed a setting I bet.

I bet you need to have your email in outlook check the setting for .....

Outgoing server tab in Advanced settings.

Check My Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

then check the use same settings as the incoming mail server.

Test that out and it should work.

Good Morning Kent:

I knew it had to be something like that. All the ISPs are clamping down on =

relaying in an effort to cut down on spam originating from their IP range r=

esulting in spamhaus (et. al.) blacklistings and are requiring credentials =

to send.

The key to me was when you said it worked 2 days ago and is now not working=

so the ISP changed 'something'.

On our scouting computers I have email set up using Thunderbird with multip=

le accounts. They use one account to get our email and reply back through t=

heir ISP when they are home and are using their DSL/Cable modems and our em=

ail system when they travel and have a hotel provided POP or when they dial=

in (yes...we use dial up connections when there is no broadband connection=

available...I wrote the interface to switch between to the 2 connections).

Glad your issue is solved.

Regards,

Jack Skelley

Download Thunderbird or some alternate mail client and try with the different client.

This will isolate whether it is a problem with your email client or something else.
