#openstack-nova - 2025-11-24
08:07:03 LarsErikP sorry for nagging, but is there any progress on merging this? /o\ https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/916409
08:11:15 opendevreview Seyeong Kim proposed openstack/nova master: libvirt: Support boot_index for multiple block devices https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/963665
10:23:57 nelljerram LarsErikP: I'm not an expert at all in the area, but I took a look and there is an unresolved comment, which looks to me reasonable and like it should be addressed; but there has been no response from the author since April. You might need to upload your own version, with the comment addressed, in order to make progress on this.
10:43:40 opendevreview Merged openstack/nova master: [ironic] Ensure unprovision happens for new states https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/967941
11:18:54 LarsErikP nelljerram: hmm.. Maybe let sean-k-mooney and tobias-urdin chip in here. I know the discussed something here last time I asked about it :P Sadly I'm not enough of a developer to fix the unresolved comment (if that's really what needed)
11:20:28 LarsErikP and even if the original author is MIA; this is still a (large) issue imho, so it should really be fixed by someone else if need be /o\
11:22:46 sean-k-mooney so dan made a seoft request for th epatch to follow our normal regesstion process by creating a functional repoducer in addtion to the unit tests
11:23:20 sean-k-mooney i tought abvout that orginlaly but i decided not to request one. its been a while so i dont recall why
11:24:03 sean-k-mooney dan left it open to other cores if they agreed a funcitonal test was retuire to move forward or just a nice to have
11:24:57 sean-k-mooney no one has actully responded ot dan on there request and its clear they feel the testing is not enough as is to proceed which is why they are not will to upgrade to +2
11:25:57 sean-k-mooney so the best way to move it forward would be to add the extra testign that was reuqested by dan. the althernitive is to find another core to reveiw it
11:28:27 LarsErikP uhm ok. So.. how do we go about progressing with that? :P I'm really keen on this getting fixed, but sadly not able or comfortable to help much with the coding..
11:45:33 sean-k-mooney sorry was making coffee, im surpriesd ragat has not updated it but i guess they have just been busy
11:47:27 sean-k-mooney i guess the best way forward is to create repoducer as a sperate patch and or see if someone can pick this up by addign it to the irc meeting later today
12:49:09 LarsErikP If you could discuss it in a meeting, that would probably be useful? =)
12:49:17 LarsErikP sirry, was afk too. Got servers in the mail :P
13:41:40 dmsimard[m] sean-k-mooney, bauzas: hi btw, still unpiling the summit backlog but I don't think I ever thanked you for helping discussing through our proposal so thanks, even if the outcome didn't turn out the way we hoped, it was worthwile to talk about it :p
13:43:55 sean-k-mooney dmsimard[m]: sorry still tryign to rememebr names and topics which one was that specificly? there were a lot of topics at the ptg? numa?
13:44:41 dmsimard[m] dynamic overcommit/scheduling with monitoring/prometheus
13:45:53 sean-k-mooney oh o/ ill try and remember you nic
13:46:32 sean-k-mooney so ya that was interesting. i think we could impove teh ux there by actully makign that plugping a stevador entry point and possibley help you with creatign a new repo
13:46:43 sean-k-mooney to host operator filters/weigher
14:09:52 opendevreview Merged openstack/placement stable/2025.2: Reproduce GET a_c slowness bug/2126751 https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/placement/+/964219
14:09:54 opendevreview Merged openstack/placement stable/2025.2: Prune a_c search space by invalid prefixes https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/placement/+/964220
15:10:08 Uggla Nova meeting in ~50mn
15:10:37 gibi Uggla: I will be on another meeting during the nova meeting today. I have no news to raise for the eventlet topic
15:11:12 Uggla ok gibi, thanks letting me know.
15:20:14 opendevreview Doug Goldstein proposed openstack/nova stable/2025.2: [ironic] Ensure unprovision happens for new states https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/968208
15:22:37 dmsimard[m] sean-k-mooney: philosophically speaking, it's true that the scheduler is already pluggable with the ability for out of tree filters/weighers so it's fine I guess, I understand that perspective and can even agree with it
15:23:16 dmsimard[m] the topic then centered around something like "there's a couple operators that have this use case, we have something interesting for it, now what do we do?"
15:29:09 sean-k-mooney dmsimard[m]: right os the schduler is one of the only offical plug point that still existin in nova
15:30:39 sean-k-mooney dmsimard[m]:i agree your usecase is interesting the thign that makes it hard is we have a rule (for scaling reaosne) that the weighers and filter cannot do api calls and shoudl avoid db operations although the base weither and filters do allow them to do bulk opertions on all host rather then weigher per host
15:31:02 sean-k-mooney so there are some opetrunities to optimize the impact of you were to call prometheus while schdulign
15:31:33 sean-k-mooney https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/master/nova/weights.py#L100-L120
15:31:56 sean-k-mooney for example allwos you to weigh all candiate hots at once rtather hten relying on the defautl per host approch
15:32:30 sean-k-mooney same for filters https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/master/nova/filters.py#L36-L45

16:14:56 elodilles some more detail is here:
