| 15:46:16 | gibi | cc Uggla :) | |
| 15:46:24 | Uggla | yep I followed | |
| 15:46:37 | Uggla | do you think we can restart a bit earlier ? | |
| 15:48:02 | gibi | I think we can start around 50 | |
| 15:49:00 | Uggla | let's say 55' ok so if people miss the notification they will not miss to much of the discussion | |
| 15:54:20 | opendevreview | Goutham Pacha Ravi proposed openstack/nova master: DNM: test dependency on devstack-plugin-ceph changes https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/918957 | |
| 16:04:59 | dansmith | bauzas: lots of typing noise from you | |
| 16:05:10 | bauzas | ack | |
| 16:22:04 | dansmith | bauzas: FYI, you sound different than normal and like maybe you're using your laptop mic? | |
| 16:22:11 | dansmith | we're hearing mouse clicks, keys, etc | |
| 16:22:25 | bauzas | fucking Jitsi, it doesn't tell me which mic I use | |
| 16:22:56 | dansmith | yeah, jitsi-- it's also not letting me unmute from my headset like better tools do :/ | |
| 16:23:09 | bauzas | what's weird is that I get the usual sound of the in-use mic when I move it in order to speak | |
| 16:23:29 | bauzas | usually, the sounds I get is when my headset is in use | |
| 16:23:43 | dansmith | and also sean-k-mooney was having one-way audio in two separate incidents today | |
| 16:24:11 | clarkb | bauzas: it shows you the mic you are using if you clikc the little ^ on the mic icon | |
| 16:24:37 | bauzas | clarkb: there was no checkmark when I was opening it | |
| 16:24:56 | bauzas | but once I click on one of the mics, then indeed I have the checkmark set against it | |
| 16:25:36 | bauzas | I guess I probably wasn't forcing to use my headset mic and jitsi was using the laptop one as default | |
| 16:25:53 | dansmith | mine also did the "you have no mic checked" thing initially | |
| 16:26:20 | clarkb | pavucontrol allows you to pick a default device and jitsi shows me "default" as an otpion. I wonder if it just falls back to that if you don't select something different | |
| 16:26:24 | sean-k-mooney | dansmith: ack what broswer are you using. i swap to firefox and it seams to be workign currently | |
| 16:27:11 | dansmith | chrome and macos | |
| 16:27:12 | sean-k-mooney | clarkb: at least form me i had 2 way audio with soem particapent and 1 way audio with others in teh same call | |
| 16:27:26 | sean-k-mooney | clarkb: so it felt more like a nat/peer to peer issue | |
| 16:28:53 | clarkb | sean-k-mooney: weird, we should have the server set up to run all traffic through the server to avoid peer to peer issues. But could still have been nat/firewall issues potentially with the server as the remote endpoint. The other thing we see is that some people just don't toggle the browser perms and they get muted for input and output (the browsers should pop up asking you | |
| 16:28:55 | clarkb | to allow this) | |
| 16:29:53 | clarkb | I think one of the issues is that those of us that use jitsi regularly don't erally have issues with it so these are all unknown unknowns. using it more regularly would help shake out where the problems are but its a chicken and egg problem | |
| 16:36:10 | melwitt | it has been fine for me fwiw, I use brave and macos. I also don't use headset controls though | |
| 16:36:50 | sean-k-mooney | clarkb: honestly it seam to be working fine on firefox and apparenlty that is what i was usign last ptg | |
| 16:37:13 | clarkb | sean-k-mooney: that is good to know (I use chrome and that works for me on linux with x windows) | |
| 16:37:53 | sean-k-mooney | clarkb: i normlaly use chrom for all webrtc stuff like google meet but it also could be on my side, i have intrusion detection enabeld on my ubiquit router | |
| 16:38:06 | sean-k-mooney | althoug given firefox is fine its proably not that | |
| 17:02:50 | cardoe | Uggla: I've put https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova-specs/+/471815 at the end of the agenda... still wondering how we can make this happen | |
| 17:03:17 | cardoe | There's code for the spec. There's tests for the spec. There's multiple downstream vendors that have been running the patches in production for over a year now. | |
| 17:03:36 | Uggla | cardoe, I will find a slot tomorrow morning my time and I will keed you update. | |
| 17:03:45 | Uggla | *keep | |
| 17:05:26 | cardoe | Uggla: happy to do it around the time of the ironic/nova cross project times since I'm representing Ironic for both cross project topics. | |
| 17:06:20 | Uggla | yep I was thinking of it. Because the Ironic session is quite long. So maybe you'll have a timeslot. | |
| 18:34:58 | sean-k-mooney | Uggla: we shoudl update the ptg bot to say we are don for today | |
| 18:35:31 | sean-k-mooney | clarkb: what is the channel again for the ptg is it opendev-events or something generic for that? | |
| 18:35:33 | Uggla | sean-k-mooney, I was doing it when I see your msg poping | |
| 18:35:39 | Uggla | :) | |
| 18:35:40 | sean-k-mooney | :) | |
| 18:36:01 | clarkb | sean-k-mooney: its #openinfra-events | |
| 18:37:09 | sean-k-mooney | ah its openinfra | |
| 18:37:17 | sean-k-mooney | i tried opensdev and openstack | |
| 19:38:15 | BigToeTuna | Hi friends. I have a quick inquery, I have a use case which requires growing the instances directory mountpiont on the hypervisor. However I can achieve this by having multiple instances_paths I.E /var/lib/nova/instances0, /var/lib/nova/instances1 and so on. Is there any way to specify multiple instance directories? | |
| 20:01:13 | dansmith | nope | |
| 20:13:41 | BigToeTuna | I figured, thanks! | |

| 07:40:06 | yunhokim_ | Hi, compute_task.migrate_server notification has sent as error when vm migration failed due to lack of host. But resize also use same notification and payload. Can we add delimiter in payload to figure out which event occurs during migration or resize? | |
| 08:46:46 | gibi | yunhokim_: resize and cold migrate is the same action internally in nova. A cold migrate is a resize without flavor change. The instance.resize_prep.start and instance.resize_prep.end notifications has an extra new_flavor field. If you compare the flavorid in the new_flavor and flavor fields and they are differ then the it is a resize, if they are the same then it is a cold migration. At the moment | |
| 08:46:52 | gibi | this is the best we can do. If you want to improve on it we might be able to add the new_flavor fields to the rest of the resize notifications | |
| 09:59:44 | yunhokim_ | Thanks for apply. I just find the code that you mentioned from conductor. I will check that can improve. | |
| 11:20:37 | iurygregory | Hello nova folks, just a reminder that today at 15:30 UTC we have cross-project session with ironic, where? Mitaka room | |
| 12:00:05 | sean-k-mooney | https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/nova-2026.1-ptg#L93 | |
| 12:00:20 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory: it says nova host in the grizzly room | |
| 12:00:46 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory:but that really means join https://meetpad.opendev.org/nova-2026.1-ptg | |
| 12:01:32 | sean-k-mooney | since we are not using zoom rooms and are usign the meetpad/jitis rooms instead | |
| 12:12:08 | iurygregory | sean-k-mooney, oh ok! | |
| 12:13:47 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory:oh uyou sadi 15:30 | |
| 12:13:54 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory: for that we are in your room | |
| 12:13:57 | sean-k-mooney | https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/nova-2026.1-ptg#L104 | |
| 12:14:13 | sean-k-mooney | i looked at teh mainilla session sorry | |
| 12:14:25 | iurygregory | oh ok | |
| 12:14:32 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory: so we shoudl be joining https://meetpad.opendev.org/oct2025-ptg-ironic at 15:30 | |
| 12:14:37 | iurygregory | yeah | |
| 12:14:59 | iurygregory | I will join the nova room to remind about it | |
| 12:15:09 | sean-k-mooney | oh you were not askign where it is you were saying it was in mitaka before | |
| 12:15:24 | iurygregory | yeah =) | |
| 12:16:35 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory: so im proably still going ot be in the watcher room at that point so i likely wont be able to attend but i think i replied in supprot fo the ironic topic on the ml? unless im misrememebring | |
| 12:17:02 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory: the restore backups to a different availability zone topic if for cinder right? | |
| 12:17:11 | iurygregory | sean-k-mooney, you did | |
| 12:17:35 | sean-k-mooney | given you cant use AZ with ironic really since you cant really use host aggartes with ironic | |
| 12:17:42 | sean-k-mooney | on the nova side | |
| 12:18:16 | sean-k-mooney | its proably less broken then it was in the past now that we supprot the ironic sharding feature | |
| 12:18:18 | iurygregory | yeah, we only have two topics the graphical console and boot the machines from NVMe-over-TCP (nova+cinder) | |
| 12:18:27 | sean-k-mooney | cool | |
| 12:18:48 | iurygregory | feel free to add info in the etherpad if you want also | |
| 12:18:55 | iurygregory | https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/ironic-ptg-2026.1#L667 | |
| 12:19:23 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory: this might be of relevence to ironichttps://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova-specs/+/471815 | |
| 12:20:06 | iurygregory | sean-k-mooney, for which topic? | |
| 12:20:14 | sean-k-mooney | although that more about supproting the vlan trunk info for neutron trunk ports in genreal in the metadata | |
| 12:20:54 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory: not for any of the current ones it just hat mentionign it because one of the use cases is "Once the BM server is booted up with Ironic, its networking interfaces can be | |
| 12:20:56 | sean-k-mooney | automatically configured and brought up." | |
| 12:21:34 | sean-k-mooney | iurygregory: i belive ye implented a feature very much like this on your side in the last release or twoo so this may now onlybe relevent to other virt drivers | |
| 12:21:40 | sean-k-mooney | just sharing for awareness | |
| 12:26:35 | iurygregory | ack | |
| 12:26:46 | iurygregory | tks sean-k-mooney | |
| 12:26:52 | iurygregory | fyi TheJulia ^ | |
| 12:49:41 | TheJulia | cardoe: w/r/t the spec sean mentioned, any n-g-s impact anticipated? | |
| 12:50:19 | cardoe | The vlan trunk? No | |
| 12:50:40 | cardoe | We run the patches and Mirantis runs the patches in prod for well over a year. | |
| 12:50:42 | TheJulia | but shouldn't there be switch configuration to represent it? | |
| 12:51:11 | cardoe | Of course. But this is about passing the trunk port data to the server so it knows how to configure its interfaces. | |
| 12:51:46 | cardoe | This is just representing what’s in neutron to the server. | |
| 12:51:46 | sean-k-mooney | TheJulia: the vlan that is presented to the guest is a public atibute of neutorn turnk prot api meaning the end user get to choose it | |
| 12:51:57 | sean-k-mooney | n-g-s would have to cofnigure that mapping on the switch port | |
| 12:52:12 | sean-k-mooney | but that seperate form passing the infor to the vm in the metadta | |
| 12:52:21 | cardoe | Exactly | |
