16:38:58 sean-k-mooney dansmith: quick question. with the deivice alias stuff. i rememeber we checked the temest/service logs to confirm the aias was being used. do you know if we happen to have a tempet test that tries to use type=lun
16:39:19 sean-k-mooney if not it might be nice to add that to our test automation backlog
16:39:22 dansmith I'm sure not
16:39:30 sean-k-mooney ack
16:44:53 sean-k-mooney dansmith: as an fyi i rebased by eventlet stuff eiarler https://review.opendev.org/q/topic:%22eventlet-removal-part-1%22 so far so good.
16:55:07 dansmith sean-k-mooney: cool
16:56:11 opendevreview sean mooney proposed openstack/nova master: [WIP] use futerist for RBD calls https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/917962
16:56:30 sean-k-mooney it might help if i actully ran the rbd commadn on the thread pool...

18:39:17 mnaser sean-k-mooney: I know you brought up not long ago having CI for DPDK.. I'm a bit interested in that (even if we can 3rd party ci it?) .. is that something we can do over VMs or really need bm for this?
#openstack-nova - 2024-05-03
00:52:48 opendevreview Merged openstack/nova master: api: Keep track of action controllers https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/915732
09:32:42 sean-k-mooney mnaser: it can be done in vms. we technialy could do it upstream if we really wanted the limitation in the past was mianly around avialable memory in the zuul vms beucae both the vms and vswtich need to use hugepages which in the distant past need qemu to use kvm but that has not been required since 20.04
09:33:08 sean-k-mooney now that dpdk is built into the distro ovs and we dont need to compile it form souce
09:33:24 sean-k-mooney all that is really requried is tweakign devstack to enable it when installing ovs
09:42:16 mnaser I see. I assume also the VMs need to be booted with huge pages enabled (the devstack “host” vm in this case too?)
13:03:55 opendevreview Rajesh Tailor proposed openstack/nova master: Handle neutron-client conflict https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/918048

14:52:02 greatgatsby Hello. We're having problems with amphora migrations complaining about mtu 0 not matching mtu 9000? Haven't found much from googling, was hoping someone here might have some suggestions?
15:56:40 supamatt greatgatsby: why are you live migrating an amphora vm, just fail it over ;S
16:00:50 opendevreview Dan Smith proposed openstack/nova master: Avoid setting serial on raw LUN devices https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/918089
16:01:03 dansmith sean-k-mooney: we also need this to enable the raw devices ^
16:01:15 dansmith I guess that got lost in the focus on just the alias stuff
16:43:29 dansmith and just FYI, I've actually tested that with cinder and the LVM driver, and it seems to work. I get an actual scsi device in the guest that shows me the LIO target name and such
16:43:50 dansmith I thought that was going to require real hardware for some reason, but it seems to do the thing fine

10:31:54 opendevreview Kien Nguyen proposed openstack/python-novaclient master: support get and list server's metadata https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/python-novaclient/+/915977
14:10:08 sean-k-mooney dansmith: well the serial part was part of the followup of RMD/lun mode but ya i was not sure if we did that with the alias stuff but makes sense

12:54:34 greatgatsby supamatt: this is during a failover. We're evacuating a node and failing over the amphora so it can be rebooted. Some amphora fail to failover to a new node with the mtu 0 vs 9000 error in the logs. Was just hoping someone might have seen this before.
15:42:42 JayF sean-k-mooney: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/918195 would appreciate a review on that if/when you get a chance. Fixes a regression in Ironic driver from last cycle. I'm looking into what the impact would be on basic ops runtimes to add reboots to the mix.

19:37:31 JayF sean-k-mooney: I'm starting work on ironic-guest-metadata, jfyi, I may re-push your base patch with fixes if needed. Please make loud noises in my direction if you'd prefer not :)

06:25:58 gibi bauzas: do you have anything special for today's nova meeting for me to not forget?
06:28:34 bauzas gibi: nothing special, but I'll create a change for the schedule deadlines
06:28:58 bauzas for the review priorities, I'll also modify the etherpad
06:38:04 gibi ack, thanks
06:49:38 bauzas thanks again for running the meeting

09:42:00 bauzas gibi: I just uploaded https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/918422 which is the Dalmatian schedule for nova
09:42:12 bauzas gibi: actually we will have a spec review day on next Tuesday
09:42:32 bauzas I'll just write an email
09:42:39 bauzas but please tell it during the nova meeting
11:10:00 gibi sure I will
11:46:42 sean-k-mooney JayF: feel free to rework my base patch as needed
12:45:48 opendevreview Fabian Wiesel proposed openstack/nova master: Vmware: Remove uuid parameter from get_vmdk_info call https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/910627
14:34:40 opendevreview Elod Illes proposed openstack/nova stable/2023.2: DNM: grenade-skip-level fix https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/918454
15:18:58 ganso gibi: hi! I would like to ask you about https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/822050 and https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/810915
15:21:00 opendevreview Dan Smith proposed openstack/nova master: Enable virtio-scsi in nova-next https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/nova/+/918458
15:21:01 ganso gibi: I copied the entire nova/tests/functional/libvirt/test_numa_servers.py file resulted from applying all 5 patches in ussuri and placed it in the 21.2.4 tag (where the fixes do not exist) and ran the functional text. The 2 new tests are still passing
15:21:09 dansmith sean-k-mooney: ^
15:21:46 ganso gibi: is there anything that I am doing wrong? or is it that due to being a race condition sometimes the test will not fail?
15:37:39 gibi ganso: could you push what you have locally to gerrit so I can look at it?
15:38:25 gibi ganso: the test are stable in newer branches but maybe something changed in nova inbetween that making the tests invalid
15:47:26 gibi folks, nova meeting starts in 13 minutes here on the channel.
15:52:24 ganso gibi: ok I just realized what I did wrong, I was running the tests in a container, using "tox -efunctional-py38 -vv --skip-missing-interpreters=false
15:52:47 ganso gibi: just like the CI is doing, as I expected that I wouldn't have to deploy a real env for that
15:52:55 ganso gibi: but not functional tests are really running, just unit tests
15:53:28 ganso gibi: I tried forcing it to run only the numa tests and it says it doesn't match anything
15:53:43 ganso gibi: "tox -efunctional-py38 -vv --skip-missing-interpreters=false -- nova.tests.functional.libvirt.test_numa_servers"
15:54:13 ganso gibi: how is the CI job running it without a full deployment? do I need to set a parameter or flag?
15:54:15 ganso gibi: https://0b2ab51d56a67edcd93c-a3ef59e9a62996701b6308cf25770b88.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/918195/6/check/nova-tox-functional-py38/cb62697/job-output.txt
15:54:38 ganso gibi: I am deploying a focal-ussuri env in parallel just in case it really needs a real env to run
15:55:37 clarkb ganso: are you running the test-setup.sh step? I dont' really know anything about nova's functional tests but that is a step the CI jobs take and the log you link confirms it is running
15:58:11 ganso clarkb: hmm no. I just tried to run it and it tried to run a mysql command. I just installed mysql and ran it again, and it says the syntax is wrong...
16:00:20 gibi ganso: check tox.ini to see what envs are defined in ussrui
16:00:41 gibi but now, lets have a quick nova meeting
