And I suppose as long as the model is somewhat symmetrical (that is, all providers of a given resource are always at the same level of the tree - which shouldn't be too hard to encourage) and mutually understood by the dev and the op for a given driver (which pretty much has to be the case anyway) it could probably be made to work.
