08:51:22 openstackgerrit jichenjc proposed openstack/nova master: api-ref: Body verification for os-hypervisors.inc https://review.openstack.org/383691
08:54:09 openstackgerrit jichenjc proposed openstack/nova master: Prevent delete cell0 in nova-manage command https://review.openstack.org/433476
12:26:15 openstackgerrit Dan Smith proposed openstack/nova master: Make compute/api instance get set target cell on context https://review.openstack.org/437355
12:27:10 kornicameister hi guys, I am from monasca, recently gates there started to fail with errors visible at the bottom of this log file (http://logs.openstack.org/96/396596/11/check/gate-tempest-dsvm-monasca-python-mysql-full-ubuntu-xenial/615a720/logs/devstacklog.txt.gz)
12:27:14 kornicameister any idea what's wrong ?
12:28:43 openstackgerrit Maciej Jozefczyk proposed openstack/nova master: Ensure that instance directory is removed after success migration/resize https://review.openstack.org/437356
12:47:21 openstackgerrit Maciej Jozefczyk proposed openstack/nova master: Ensure that instance directory is removed after success migration/resize https://review.openstack.org/437356
13:42:05 openstackgerrit Dan Smith proposed openstack/nova master: Make compute/api instance get set target cell on context https://review.openstack.org/437355
13:42:56 melwitt sdague: this is the keystone spec for quota limits that I was thinking of yesterday https://review.openstack.org/#/c/363765/
13:43:09 sdague melwitt: great, will look
13:51:04 diana_clarke I'm assuming the nova meeting is canceled, right?
13:51:39 cdent diana_clarke: I think you should have the meeting and make lots of plans that all of us who are at the ptg are obliged to implement.
13:53:22 jaypipes sdague: quoi? :)
13:53:35 sdague jaypipes: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/437156/ is a follow on fix for the placement credentials bug you +2ed yesterday
13:54:14 sdague it and the other one both have backports to stable/ocata as well
13:54:18 diana_clarke cdent: I'm thinking nefarious thoughts now. Like switching us to couchdb, so you can all enjoy the awesomeness that is writing SQL queries in the form of map/reduce javascript snippets.
13:54:22 jaypipes sdague: Wallaby'd.
13:54:28 cdent \o/
13:54:41 sdague diana_clarke: sounds great, it's webscale right?
13:55:06 jaypipes sdague: I'm not a stable core so can't wallaby on stable/ocata :)
13:55:16 sdague ok, no prob
13:56:30 openstackgerrit Matt Riedemann proposed openstack/python-novaclient master: Remove deprecated network-related resource commands https://review.openstack.org/437145
13:56:53 sdague dansmith / johnthetubaguy - https://review.openstack.org/#/c/435016/
14:04:30 mriedem sdague: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/437157/
14:15:40 openstackgerrit Stephen Finucane proposed openstack/nova master: tox: Add 'profiler' target https://review.openstack.org/437055
14:16:10 sdague mriedem: fixed, hopefully
14:17:10 openstackgerrit Li Yingjun proposed openstack/nova master: Error message should not include SQL command https://review.openstack.org/436773
14:33:46 mtreinish dansmith: you can use tempest's client to play with things: https://github.com/mtreinish/mesocyclone after the tests are added
14:33:50 mtreinish there just isn't a cli there
14:34:31 dansmith mtreinish: that lets you test with osc you mean?
14:35:24 mtreinish dansmith: it lets you use the os-client-config you'd use with osc to also init tempest clients
14:36:27 mtreinish it just makes it easier to poke at the api outside of tempest
14:36:59 dansmith okay
14:37:02 sdague mtreinish: honestly, keystoneauth1 is so much better
14:37:19 sdague because they you don't need to relearn what every resource url is in some dsl of object names
14:37:40 mtreinish sdague: you can use that to pass a tempest-lib client a ksa session
14:37:50 mtreinish see the second example in the readme
14:38:30 sdague mtreinish: or just use keystoneauth1
14:44:45 tonyb mriedem: is the photo at 9:50 today (i.e in ~5mins)?
14:45:18 mriedem tonyb: yes
14:45:25 mriedem get your monacle ready
14:47:14 tonyb \o/
14:51:14 browne mriedem: now that we're on pike and ocata is out the door, want to review https://review.openstack.org/#/c/425958/ again
14:51:31 browne rpc version updates
14:55:57 mriedem yeah, when we get a break
14:56:01 rpodolyaka sdague: I was talking about this one - https://review.openstack.org/434843
15:00:32 mriedem sdague: i mentioned this the other night https://review.openstack.org/#/c/432699/ - if we default nova to use cinder v3 in pike, then we'll want that to explicitly run grenade on master changes with cinder v2 so we don't lose coverage there
15:06:56 ildikov Cinder-NOva session etherpad: https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/ptg-pike-cinder-nova-session
15:09:38 sdague mriedem: sure, that's fine
15:11:46 diablo_rojo Live stream of multiattach discussion with Cinder: http://youtu.be/MMTAJSYHxgA
15:12:26 sdague mriedem: actually... I'm not convinced we want to do that. We can talk about it later.
15:13:55 sdague dansmith: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/434843 doesn't hurt your cells db switcharoo, right?
15:14:34 dansmith sdague: not that I know of
15:15:30 diana_clarke diablo_rojo: Thanks! It's really nice being able to see the room.
15:18:43 diablo_rojo diana_clarke, no problem, the video will be up on our Cinder Youtube channel to reference back to as well :)
15:19:23 mriedem dansmith: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/373203/
15:19:47 openstackgerrit Sylvain Bauza proposed openstack/nova-specs master: Super WIP: Placement doing claims https://review.openstack.org/437424
15:23:04 openstackgerrit Takashi NATSUME proposed openstack/nova master: api-ref: Fix keypair API parameters https://review.openstack.org/420626
15:24:25 openstackgerrit Takashi NATSUME proposed openstack/nova master: api-ref: Fix keypair API parameters https://review.openstack.org/420626
15:30:18 thorst mriedem: FYI that I talked to sreeram_v. It doesn't sound like what we did for PowerVM & NPIV will work for the z-dpm stuff.
15:30:55 mriedem thorst: ok, i didn't understand the problem in the first place
15:31:52 thorst mriedem: I can catch you and explain it...its weirdness relating to virtualizing fibre channel.
15:32:12 thorst and differences between how hypervisors do NPIV.
15:32:37 openstackgerrit Maciej Jozefczyk proposed openstack/nova master: Ensure that instance directory is removed after success migration/resize https://review.openstack.org/437356
15:33:04 sreeram_v mriedem: yep, we can discuss during the break
15:33:07 mriedem thorst: ok explain NPIV to me first
15:33:35 sreeram_v mriedem: this explains the reason on why we do prep_for_spawn before the spawn() https://github.com/openstack/nova-dpm/blob/master/nova_dpm/virt/dpm/driver.py#L223
15:33:43 thorst yeah...can't wait to explain the joy that is NPIV.
15:39:26 tonyb mriedem: when you have time can you +1 https://review.openstack.org/#/c/437167/ and https://review.openstack.org/#/c/437165
16:04:13 mriedem jaypipes: when does https://review.openstack.org/#/c/437165/2/gerrit/projects.yaml@5623 get into git.o.o?
16:05:21 jaypipes tonyb: ^^ ?
16:06:13 sdague mriedem: when it gets approved
16:06:26 sdague with some delay
16:06:44 sdague manage-projects script runs at some point and should do the import
16:07:28 mriedem when 437165 gets approved?
16:07:44 sdague mriedem: after it gets approved, i think manage-projects runs on a cron
16:08:06 mriedem fine +1
16:08:30 tonyb mriedem: like what sdague said ;P
16:12:21 mriedem johnthetubaguy: L21 here for evacuate notes https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/ptg-pike-cinder-nova-session
16:12:23 mriedem since i'm lost
16:23:01 mriedem jaypipes: pay attention here
16:25:26 openstackgerrit Balazs Gibizer proposed openstack/nova master: fix missing instance.delete notification https://review.openstack.org/437222
16:32:46 openstackgerrit Maxim Nestratov proposed openstack/nova master: libvirt: Fix misleading error in Ploop imagebackend https://review.openstack.org/437512
16:33:00 openstackgerrit Takashi NATSUME proposed openstack/nova master: Refactor a test method including 7 test cases https://review.openstack.org/395436
16:35:19 ildikov johnthetubaguy: you can add me to the Nova spec too for the new Cinder attach/detach flow
16:35:33 ildikov johnthetubaguy: if nothing else I'll do some testing, etc.
16:43:29 openstackgerrit Sujitha proposed openstack/nova master: Change tags to default field in Instance object. https://review.openstack.org/415298
16:43:54 diana_clarke Oh, a new exciting angle ;)
16:44:00 openstackgerrit Sujitha proposed openstack/nova master: [WIP] Reduce calls to load_tags() to 0 https://review.openstack.org/435146
16:45:19 NostawRm Think this makes the 7th openstack channel I've joined now...
16:45:30 NostawRm Not sure if this counts as a dev question, but I'm trying to figure out the best way to run some custom code before an instance is deleted. I see that nova has options for hooks, but also that this is deprecated and will be removed eventually. Is there a more appropriate way? It would not make sense to suggest it being an actual part of openstack since its unique to our case
16:46:04 NostawRm it would need to be done from outside the instance, I'm not going to ramble on about it too much, but its specifically trying to do a differential backup system but specifically only for ceph, and who knows, maybe it'll actually be worth a damn and offering to the actual nova project, but its still an idea right now that I'm trying to test.
16:46:27 NostawRm but it requires that a snapshot in ceph be kept on the instances disk, which means that when trying to delete or rebuild, it fails to remove the disk
16:47:13 mriedem NostawRm: most of us are in a room all week at the PTG so you're likely not going to get a discussion started here today,
16:47:30 mriedem NostawRm: i'd suggest asking the question in the dev mailing list, tag the subject with [nova] so it's filtered properly,
16:47:45 mriedem and explain the use case enough so that others can see if there is a generic way to solve it in nova
16:47:48 mriedem without using hooks
16:48:06 NostawRm ah, I see, didn't know that was going on, ty mriedem
16:49:23 mriedem there are notifications that nova emits when deleting an instance, so you could listen for when nova starts deleting the instance and do your backup, but it gets racy
16:50:57 nic Odds are good that you'll need to subclass/extend the virt driver with your own that does what you want, but that is the definition of "technical debt"
