Wow Ed - I saw the email notifications popping up on my work computer - but, only now just started reading it!!! Yikes!

I'm not even sure I shared this story here - but, here goes...

But, the precursor. Who remembers the original attempt in 1993???

Back then, I had been working on the 97th floor of the World Trade Center. And it was crazy. The day it happened. Going out to around the elevators and smelling smoke. Then the company I worked for, had all employees congregate at the lowest floor Of the company - because they actually occupied three floors. They had us wait about an hour and a half before letting us go down the stairwells when they finally figured it was safe to go down. Then it was crazy 'cause it took an hour and a half to walk all the way down the stairway. When I got down and outside. I called my then wife. And I said I'm out of the building. She asks if I'm OK. I said no I'm not, I'm starving 'cause I never had lunch!

Now moving forwards to the year 2001. I had been working 1 1/2 blocks away from the World Trade Center. And I would commute into the base of the World Trade Center, then go out of the building and walk to my job. On, August. 31st, 2001 I quit my day job - to become a full time Mr. Mom. Then, 11 days later, I'm watching the TV in the morning with my munchkin on my lap. Am my then wife was upstairs and starts yelling and freaking out and yells for me to turn on the TV. But to the news station. And that's when I'm seeing The towers being attacked. It was insane.!!!

And of course, many people will say that my child saved my life because then I was not in the vicinity of the towers when it happened. But due to how my job was, I would never show up until about 10am - 'cause it was about support of a database system and I would typically work until like a 6pm or late shift doing something like 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM - so I would Not have possibly arrived at the Towers when the catastrophe was happening!

Anyway. There you have it...

Subject: 25 years ago today

… I was at the FoxPro DevCon in San Diego. The previous San Diego DevCon in 1995 had been held at the downtown Marriot Hotel - it was a wonderful location, with views of the water, lots of restaurants within walking distance, and a nice modern vibe. This time, though, it was at a hotel at the airport. My room opened up to a wonderful view of the runways, which were in constant use, and even with the balcony door closed, provided a pretty high decibel level. I must have complained to a dozen people about the noise.

The next day, though, it was eerily silent. You all know why. I never thought I would miss that constant noise, but the quiet, along with the implication, was much worse.
