Remember not to plug in any USB 2.x devices into a shared USB 3.0 controller because all devices will then slow to the USB 2.x speed.

Example: If you plug in a mouse beside the SSD External HD, you've just slowed down the speed of the HD.

SATA 3 HD interface is rated up to 6Gbps USB 3.0 interface is rated up to 5Gbps

Yes, using an SSD external will result in better performance than a non-SSD, even with USB 3.0 interface in the mix.
