Most large drive manufacturers release products to third parties that

package them and sell them retail. If you buy a bare bones drive

directly form the OEM manufacturer, it come unformatted, without any

instructions, no jumpers, cables, etc, and is just a bare drive. You

would need to know how to put the drive into the computer, connect it to

the motherboard, jumper it, provide all cables, etc. Information on the

drive is available on the internet or manufacturer, btw. You would need

to have software that could find the drive, partition it, and format the

drive, (eg put a file systems on one or more partitions).

A bare bones drive coming from the OEM manufacturer is less expensive

that one coming from an OEM third party; because, there is less

investment in the bare bone drive; although, the actual drives

themselves are identical in all other respects.
