Pete, you'll be glad to know that I ran into the same read/only hard drive

problem you had. I thought about it for a moment, logged back in as root,

and all was fine. Obviously, it's a permissions issue, but beats me where

they hid it!

Does anyone know of a link to a "gently hand-holding guide for people

moving from Windows to Linux?" Thanks, all. Been a long time since I've

had so much fun on the computer.
