What will you gain? A free upgrade from the
already-excellent-apart-from-the-UI-when-on-non-touch-devices Windows
8.1.
What will you lose?
> Windows Media Center
No loss there.
> the card game Hearts
Hardly a show-stopper.

Which nobody uses.
> Anyone in the habit of using floppy disks on Windows will also have to install new drivers
Surely not a big deal for the very few use-cases there still are.
> and Microsoft warns that watching DVDs will also require "separate playback software."
Doesn't everyone just use VLC anyway?

I don't mind losing Hearts - but I sure hope Spider Solitaire is still there - as that's really the only occasional WinOS game I play.
I am surprised though - to read that the OS upgrade is FREE if you have Win 7 or 8.1. My home desktop is Win7 Pro - which means if I take the upgrade - at least I won't get that Annoying crap of them Automatically upgrading and Rebooting my PC on me!

Yesterday I noticed on my home machine (Win7Pro) a Windows icon appeared in
the tray telling me about the free upgrade to Win10. Haven't noticed that
yet on any machine at work and they're all Win7Pro, too.

Win 7 licences that are corporate are subject to a different deal I believe. Maybe that applies to the ones at work.

I understand the "upgrade" is free. But how much is the DOWNGRADE, if
they launch yet another turkey like Vista?

Thought of them, too, but if we started with the MS Bandwagon (and
another one's gone, and another one's gone, another one bites the
dust), we'd be here all day.
As usual, the right answer for downgrades is a good image backup, and
maybe even a hdd swap.
'Softies always seemed to be baffled when I would have to explain that
I had to support REAL customers in a REAL WORLD where they might have
old machines and be 3 or 4 versions behind on some feature.
We just found out, in shipping out an update to one of our vertical
apps, that 1024x768 is still too large for some, with old square 4x3
aspect ratios and poor eyesight.
Backward compatibility ain't easy.

I'll be taking an image before I upgrade so that I can get back to where I
