Dear Vixens and Reynards:
I have a laptop (an Acer Aspire V3-551-7631) running Windows 7
Home. The laptop has a touchpad. I much prefer a mouse.
One reason that I do is that my hands are extremely dry, and
because of this, spurious clicks can occur when I move my finger on
the touchpad. Occasionally, a click will occurs when I am not
touching the touchpad but merely have my finger just above it.
I would like a touchpad driver that does not register clicks on
the touchpad. I would prefer to just use the buttons.
Do any of you know of such a driver or how I could find one?
Sincerely,
Gene Wirchenko

On my acer I use touchpad blocker by karpolan (karpolan.com). The acer is an
awful machine for unwanted clicks. I will never buy another one.

My old Acer has a button to the left of the power button that disables
the touchpad.

Well I'm blowed. On mine Fn F7 turns it on and off. Never knew that.

Yeah.. It fully disables the touchpad. That's not the same as turning
off tapping while allowing the swipe function of the touchpad to work.
Acer and ASUS laptops used to come with a driver that let you uncheck
a box to turn off tapping. They haven't for a while, and older
drivers don't work. Very, very, very annoying. I am forced to plug in
a mouse even for very brief use of these laptops now, because it is
absolutely impossible to use a touchpad with tapping enabled without
accidentally tapping and screwing things up.
Who is the idiot who invents this stuff, and where can I go to shoot
him or her?

I pretty much hate all touchpads ever, although I've never used Apple
ones which are supposed to be excellent.

I share your sentiments regarding traditional touch pads. Apple's Magic
Mouse [1] is a mouse with a touch-pad like surface. Wonderful!
