Wondering what the rest of you are using for ebook readers and where
you're buying/renting your ebooks?
I have a Kindle Paper White which is great for reading fiction but sucks
for anything technical. I get my ebooks from Amazon and from open source
vendors that publish books in a Kindle format. I've tried to read PDF's
on a Kindle but the experience was not pleasant.
I've read several free ebooks in an Apple iBook and PDF formats on my
MacBook Pro and found my laptop's screen made the reading experience
much nicer than my Kindle for books that benefited from the larger
screen real estate. I'm considering an iPad as an alternative reader.
Are any of you renting technical books from Safari or using Amazon's
flat monthly rate rental program for a subset of their books? What about
purchasing ebooks from other publishers like Manning?

I'm not. Every time I look I marvel at the huge prices being charged for
items with no cost of physical production and order printed books
instead.

I have a Kindle reader app on my laptop and my tablet: they come in
useful as many of the technical books I buy have free ebook versions -
other than that I prefer 'paper with printing' as they used to say on 20
Questions.

I am using a tablet, 8.3 pol, from Motorola, but it is not fabricated anymore. I found that the size is about right. I had a Nook color 7' but it was bad for reading magazines and 10' to big to handle or carry.I get my ebooks from many places, I usually look for deals. Funny is the other I bought "Two Scoops of Django" and it only lives in paper, hw about that ?

I was just discussing this with the guys that build my computers when
they saw I was carrying a book. They love their readers, but I have
tried them and for some unknown reason I don't like them. Cost and
always having to keep them charged are two reasons. I am the world's
worst keep electronics charged person. The point about technical books
and pdf's is an important one. Other than entertainment that is all I read.
Thanks Malcolm

The Kindle only needs charging about once a month.

Use the iPad. My wife does and it is great for reading, except in sunlight.
Get the calibre app for converting other ebook formats and PDFs. If you
didn't have the iPad, I like an Android tablet. Good eBook software for any
format including PDFs.
I prefer a tablet, as a multi-function device for watching movies, etc.
also. Personally, I like a big one (10-11").
