All,
I need a way to store business-related notes and have them accessible
from anywhere, including from my Andriod phone. I'm currently using an
application I wrote in VFP, which works great, but if I'm out of the
office, I have to have remote access back to my computer. So, I'm
looking for a "cloud" (oooooh, buzzword warning!) solution.
Obviously, there's Evernote. Any platform, free for limited use,
popular, established. I've downloaded and installed it and played with
it, and it doesn't overwhelm me.
Anyone got any other suggestions? What do you use? Do you like it?
I just need to be able to store names, phone, email, random notes, URLs,
maybe even pix or video. Something with very flexible search...no good
to HAVE the info if you can't FIND the info.

OneDrive seems ok. I have it on all computers and android and I can see my
files on all items. And it's free.

Bzzt! You don't want it in the cloud, you want a web app. Or an Android
app. Or a PIM that syncs between your devices. You don't want a cloud. You
can't find anything 'cause of the cloudiness.
I use different apps for different client situations. Wunderlist is awesome
for, well, lists. Pivotal Tracker for project management, tasks, deadlines
and related notes. Redmine for a combo ticketing system, wiki, and document
repository. Strongly recommend you consider something like Redmine - a
self-hosted CMS so you can store, well, stuff, since you seem to want notes
(blog, wiki), and media (CMS) and stuff.

Dang it Ted! I was trying to look cool with a buzz word! I'm still
working on how to use "container" like all the other guys at the water
cooler...
Yeah, mostly I just need to write down stuff I can't/won't
remember...like the public IP addresses/mask/gateway for client's
routers. I was on-site yesterday at a client site because they had
electricians in the building flipping breakers and it somehow whacked
the router/firewall/switch network room and equipment (all on UPSs.) So
I'm in the building with no way out except with my Android phone. I had
all the needed info...on my computer in the office. Ideally I could
write this stuff down and leave it with the equipment, but I have to
deal with a lot of "Hey! I know a lot about computers! I can fix that!"
helpers.
I'll look into Redmine. Thanks!

To be honest for simple notes I just use the note functionality that my
email provider Fastmail provides in their webmail.

Alan, yeah, I use Rackspace and they offer that. It makes sense. I just
usually don't log in to my Rackspace email account, using Thunderbird
instead.
One suggestion I got was for Simplenote, which looks good and the sync
is practically instant. I'm just a bit concerned with putting my eggs in
their basket since without their service, my notes are gone.

I confess I have an emotional block against using spreadsheets (except
for spreadsheet stuff of course.) I have a client who uses spreadsheets
for everything...forms, word processing, signs...it drives me nuts
wanting everything in my VFP app exported to XLS.

I have a long time client who also used to use his spreadsheet program as a word processor - Lotus 123...
I made sure to send him the official Lotus 123 funeral notice that IBM sent out earlier this year. rofl
