Very Frustrated !!

Author: Kent Belan

Just lost all my changes to a form I have been working on all day. Went to

save my changes and VFP9 crashed and both the scx and sct files are gone.

Just disappeared ....

How can this happen and more important how can I avoid this in the future ?

Is this a Foxpro problem ? a Windows 8 problem or a Dell laptop problem ?

Is there a way to make a backup of a form when you click on the edit option

in the project manager ?

Dang this SUCKS !!!!

Are there any other files with odd extensions sitting in the folder where

the sct/scx should be. In the past I have experienced this and found such

files. Simply renamed them and life was good again.

As Darren mentioned, you may find them in the OS/VFP temp folder location with obscure filenames.

Hi Kent:

> how can I avoid this in the future ?

Using a Source Code Manager tool, as SVN, Git, Perforce or PlasticSCM, you

can avoid this problem, because you have a copy of every file on the

server, that can be your PC or another PC.

I keep asking myself why people see this tools as something complicated,

when using them is a few clicks work.

By the way, you can have a copy of your binaries in text (prg-style) format

<https://vfpx.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=FoxBin2Prg>, to regenerate those

binaries when you need them.

I can give you some help on doing that, If you are interested.

Checked the \kent\appdata\loca\temp and lots of files but not the 2 that

went missing ...

Wish there was a way to make a backup of the form when you click the edit

button in the project manager ....

I'm sure you could write a project hook to do that for you if there's

not one out there that does that already

Kent,

I'm sure a ProjectHook can be written to do it. Someone might already have

one out there.

I've been there, so I feel your frustration. May the reedits flow quickly.

Kent

It might not be a total loss - do you have an exe or app from before you

lost the SCX ? If so then Refox would get back your screen.

Cheers
