[NF] STunnel and GoDaddy Mail Server

Hi,

I am struggling trying to get blat to work via my Godaddy mail server.

In Thunderbird my settings to send email are:

Server: smtpout.secureserver.net

Port: 465

Connection Security: SSL/TLS

I have stunnel.conf setup like this:

[ssmtp]

accept = 465

connect = smtpout.secureserver.net:465

My code runs blat with the server = localhost and port = 465

In the stunnel UI I see this:

2014.01.26 10:40:13 LOG5[7884:3096]: Service [ssmtp] accepted connection

from 127.0.0.1:50405

2014.01.26 10:40:43 LOG3[7884:3096]: SSL_accept: Peer suddenly disconnected

2014.01.26 10:40:43 LOG5[7884:3096]: Connection reset: 0 byte(s) sent to

SSL, 0 byte(s) sent to socket

Is there something I have not added to the stunnel.conf to tell it to

use SSL/TLS?

Frank.

This article looks like it may help you. Just substitute "blat" for "mutt".

Thank, but that looks like exactly what I have done in terms of the

You may get more help tomorrow when the regular subscribers check in. I

don't use stunnel, but blat is drop dead simple, so I'd suspect it's a

configuration problem on the stunnel side. You could probably test with a

terminal program to see if you're getting access to the mail server,

something like:

telnet 127.0.0.1:465

and you should see an 'EHLO' response from the mail server.

Your blat needs to be configured to email to your local end of the tunnel,

likely something like is show in this article:

http://www.jeffkastner.com/2010/01/blat-stunnel-and-gmail/

Note that he shows separate install steps and then a send step.

Hi Frank,

Try adding logging to your stunnel.conf file:

debug = 7

output = stunnel.log

And under "; Service-level configuration" I have:

protocol=smtp

[ssmtp]

accept = 127.0.0.1:251

connect = smtp.gmail.com:587

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

G.

Stunnel

Author: John Weller

Posted: 2014-04-07 11:57:00   Link

I have an app which is running on several machines which uses CDO to send

emails automatically. It worked fine until a few months ago when I got a

message on a development machine saying CDO.CONFIGURATION class could not be

found, the other development machine and the client's machines were working

fine. I put up an appeal for help on ProFox and got the very sensible reply

from Ted that it had probably been broken by M$ and that I should use BLAT.

Unfortunately BLAT as it stands won't work with Gmail which is what the

clients are using so I decided to let the world go by as it was only one

machine. Unfortunately one of the client machines has developed the same

fault so now I have to do something :-)

I've done some research and it appears that I have to use Stunnel with BLAT

to overcome the Secure SMTP issue with Gmail. I believe I need to install

Stunnel on a development machine then all I need to do is copy the files

from the Program files area and put them in the same folder as my exe on the

client's machine. I then need to call Stunnel before I call BLAT.

Unfortunately Stunnel installs a raft of files and I'm not sure which ones I

need nor can I see what I should do to call Stunnel.

I am a bit lost (a lot lost?) in this whole area of SMTP, SSL, etc and am

floundering! Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thanks

Hi John,

There is another open source SMTP application out there similar to Blat and it supposedly supports TLS/SSL type connections. I don't recall the name off the top of my head and am too buried at the moment to dig it up but I'm sure a search of the Profox archives will turn up the mention.
