Hi foxgang

I had to reinstall my win 2k3 server. Now the other machines need to redo

the user's login and that means all the profiles have gone. win 7 machine

and win 8 machines now have no start menu worth bothering with. Outlook has

lost all accounts. Im sure Im not the first but I cant find much of use on

google search unless I am typing in the wrong thing. Has anyone been through

this and succeeded in getting a user back?

Al

Al,

Log in to the workstation as a local administrative user. (preferably not

the user you want to correct) I've also done this with the network

administrator.

You may want to COPY instead of RENAME the old folder. It depends on how

fast you want to get it done, and maybe undo something.

In the Users folder, determine which user folder is which.

Rename the new folder to something else.

Rename the old folder to that new folders original name.

In the properties of the folder, change the owner of the folder and all

files and folders under it to the new user.

Log in as the new user.

Hi Tracy

I tried that. Missing a load of icons on the win 8 start screen. No outlook

accounts though the pst's are all there. Adding those to outlook 2007 did

nothing other than I could see emails but no accounts. VFP has no projects

but I think that's registry. Outlook is imap so I could easy do that again.

Tried easy transfer. useless. Lost photos too. dont know where they went.

the old user directory has no documents at all.

Weird stuff
