[NF] Which laptop?

Next month a friend of mine will be in USA and I was thinking of asking

him to buy me a laptop.

Now first I'm not sure I can afford it so I thought about asking those

of you in USA about prizes.

I was thinking an i3 or i5 with 4Gigs and a Tb HD. But I'm open to

suggestions about SSD other cpu, more RAM or whatever, so long as the

price doesn't go too high. And I'd like one of those really thin ones if

it is within my reach. Battery use time is important. I was thinking

between $500 and $1000 (dollars) though I'd like to be nearer the lower

figure.

Thanks for your help.

Ricardo

Make sure you can up the ram to 12,16 gig. That dive it pretty large, do

you need that or would 650 gig fit you and a backup 2TB UBS drive be

cheaper?

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 15R from Dell's web site. It was around

$750 with a two-year warranty. It's got 8GB RAM, a 1T HD, a 15.6"

touch-screen monitor and an i5 processor. It looks like I'm gonna get 4-5

hours on one battery charge.

After three days with it, I'm really liking it. It sounds like it fits the

description of what you're looking for, so you might wanna look into one.

Good luck!

That price sounds good for those specs, I think. Been awhile since I

was a buyer. I should be a buyer again soon...mine is 5 yrs old.

Checking prices locally I found out that the $ difference between 650Gb

and 1Tb is small.

I am looking as well. Now that you need to have touch screen I am

interested in looking again. That and I lost two key tops from the

keyboard when a box was slid on my laptop that was open.

Win8 I was going to wait for 9. But I just bought a cross dev toolkit for

iAny, Android and WinPhone for HTML5 in localized apps. They say that

Apple approves the output for deployment. I might get to crack it open

sometime in June I think.

Thanks. Looks like what I'm looking for. Do you have any idea about

Linux compatibility of your machine?

I have 12 gig on my laptop and my usage is 4-6 gig all the time. Go for

Ram over disk IMHO

Probably right, I will look for more ram. In any case John's Dell comes

with 8 gig so it is within these specs.

Dell has a laptop that they ship with Linux, although that specific model may be out of your budget, so I would expect that you wouldn't have too many issues.
