[NF] Java Security issue

Author: James Harvey

Been getting a number of "WARNINGS" about a new security issue with Java.

Not sure how concerned we should be? Should we turn Java off as they

recommend?

Yes. Switch it off in the browser. Client side almost nothing uses it

these days anyway.

Interesting that it should be brought up today - since, just yesterday my

wife was watching the News and a big deal was being made out of Java

Security issues! Paul - I had no idea that few client side apps use it these

days - since, I thought Java was still so intrinsic to life on the web...

That's just the beginning. Here's some recommendations on safe browser

usage from your friends in the US gov't:

from the article: "Apple stopped shipping its computers with Java

enabled last year, largely because of security concerns, but said it

was remotely disabling the Java 7 plug-in on Macs where it had already

been installed. "

So Apple can just come into anyone's computer and do stuff?
