[NF] -- Home Color Printer

Hey, all -- - -- -- - - -- - -- -----

Maybe a simple question, but: I am looking for a new color printer.

Our requirements are simple:

-- Occasional use for color documents, like the kids' school projects.

-- More seldom, print a photograph or a document containing one.

-- Ink costs that are not a cause for personal bankruptcy.

-- Mac drivers.

The one we have currently "inhales vigorously." It is a HP DeskJet

D1500. Any time we ask it to print a photo, it ends up all "stripey"

and the colors distort. There are no utilities to realign the print

heads, no status check utility for ink levels (except "replace now").

It has 2 cartridges, black and color. I used to have a Canon (I think)

which had separate cartridges for black, cyan, magenta, yellow and a

couple of "photo" cartridges for Cyan and Magenta. (I never understood

why.) This seemed better to me, since if you print documents with a

lot of red on them, you ended up replacing the magenta cartridge but

had plenty of (for example) yellow left.

Recommendations, experiences (positive and negative)? I checked the

archives, but only found stuff a few years old...

Thanks,

Ken

I'm also looking for a printer. Color isn't important, but it would be

nice. I perfer laser to inkjet. I would also like to free up some

space by going with a multi-fuction printer. Currently I'm looking

closely at the HP Laserjet Pro CM1415FNW. Anyone have any pearls of

wisdom regarding this printer.

I just got the HP3050 wifi printer and it seems pretty good. I just

put it in after Christmas so how long the cartridges last I have no

idea.

Use the Wireless connection which was real easy to set up.

Replacement non HP cartridges are real cheap.

Leland,

> I'm also looking for a printer. Color isn't important, but

My recent experiences with HP printers have been very negative.

I've had great success with the Brother HL 2170W laser printer.

Under $100, built-in networking, about 20 pages per minute, reasonably

priced toner.

Highly recommended.

We have a bunch of Brother HL-2140 Black-only laser printers in the office, including the one on my desk.

Been quite impressed with it.

Have an HP Photosmart Premium all-in-one inkjet (I think that is what it is called) at home. Goes through toner like crazy...

The Brother all-in-ones are outstanding.   They never break down.

I have the DCP 7020 which is a Scanner/Printer.  I've had it for years with zero problems and I use it a lot.

That model is no longer sold.   But here are other ones

I agree.  I had one client who bought an HP on his own and we just couldn't get the thing to stay connected wirelessly to his network and it was SLOW.

Brother is Awesome!

Based on comments like these, I bought a b/w Brother printer a while

ago. I'll look into them for color, too.
