Is there any way you can determine WHO has placed a lock on a record
Alternatively, can a record lock be removed by anyone other than the person
who placed it there in the 1st place ?

I took another approach with one product in that I set a record in a lock
file rather than the lock. It has who locked the records. Only problem is it
can keep the lock in the case of a crash

If your files are on a server running Windows Server the Admin can look
at a file, see who has a lock on it, and remove any he/she wishes. I
believe this capability is restricted to Windows Server.

If your files are on a Samba server you can easily find out who has what locks open
using the smbstatus command.

We are speaking about record locking, not file locking !

Isn't that only at the file level and not at the record level?
