VFP9 SP2 I need a report writer recommendation for a non-programmer

This user would not want to spend a lot of money. They only need some simple reports and probably would not access more

than 3 tables in the report.

Any suggestions?

A report w/3 tables can be very complex depending on the user requirements. i'd recommend the user put together a requirement doc for the report(s) and provide a statement of what each report should accomplish along with a comprehensive mock up of what each report should look like.

The user created requrements doc will go a long way in shortening the report developer's time and expense.

We've had some success with Access. At least it's readily available,

supported, and has the MS imprimatur. It works, too.

Caveat: Like all schemes for writing programs without programming,

success depends on the attitude of the person using it.

I'll throw Doug Hennig's Stonefield Query tool out here too. The mgmt

decided not to use it at Sylvan (for no good reason) but it would have

allowed end-users to create/run reports somewhat easily, taking

advantage of the SDT info I had already on file about the database in

the meta-data tables.

I'd suggest Crystal - it's great at hand-holding, but can get out of

the way when you need it to.

Of course, my recommendation is probably heavily biased by working

with it every day. :-)
