So we've made the decision to go with either an XP system or a Win 7 32-bit system. Looks like new 32 bit systems are getting scarce. Does anyone have a recommendation?

A no-brainer, IMO. Assuming it is proved that FP-DOS runs on it, it's
Win 7.

Seems that there are few systems running Win 7 32-bit. Does anyone have a brand and model that they like? The client would prefer a slim-line design.

I'm looking at a Acer Veriton which is listed as having Win 7 Professional 32/64 bit. What does 32/64 mean?

Win 7 Professional 32/64 bit means that you can install either the 32 bit or
64 bit version of the software. Obviously you need a 64 bit computer to
install the 64 bit version.

We buy (and recommend to our clients) clearance systems from Directron. We have been using them for years. excellent
support and products and prices. They are somewhere in Texas I think:
http://www.directron.com/clearance.html
The often have XP systems. and they may be able to install more memory and other parts for you in some cases. They build
systems to suit.

I recommend purchasing a 64-bit system and if you're committed to a
32-bit system, run your 32-bit system in a VM using one of several free
VM products out there. If you're on the fence about XP vs. Win 7 (and
have licenses for both), then create a VM for both and then migrate to
Win 7 at your leisure.
I can't think of a single reason to purchase a 32-bit system these days.

I agree. Maybe there's a misunderstanding about 64bit CPUs and 16bit apps here.
64bit Windows cannot run 16bit apps (DOS, FPW 2.6).
However a 64bit cpu running 32bit Windows *can*.
This probably means buying Windows seperately.

I think it's too expensive to run a VM on 6 machines, or am I wrong?
