[OT] Climate-change scientists cleared of misconduct

Author: Ed Leafe

The favorite target of climate-change deniers, Michael Mann, has been cleared of any research wrongdoing.

"The panel found no evidence of research misconduct in three of the four areas it examined, including falsifying data and misusing confidential information. But it concluded that further investigation was needed into whether Mann did anything not in keeping with accepted practices for proposing, conducting or reporting research."

I know it would be wishful thinking to think that the ignorant folks who up until now used this one incident to paint all scientists as dishonest, and thus free them from acknowledging anything they don't like as valid, would realize that at worst this was a matter of incorrect protocol being followed, and at best a simple matter of human error by an individual. However, as these people are the same ones who continue to knowingly assert untruths such as "Al Gore claimed to have invented the internet", I strongly doubt that they will display any more honesty when it comes to this matter. But at least those of you with some shred of dignity will be able to more easily spot these liars when they continue to repeat lies about climate scientists "cooking the books".

Maybe this will stop the few who continually use the argument that

scientists have been cooking the books about climate change. Glad you found

His peers from the university he works at adjudged him not guilty in 3 of 4

areas. Yup, I've been put at ease.

They never did put any of the pro-tobacco scientists in jail either.   Nor did they put the global cooling scientists in jail.

That's what makes it a conspiracy! ;-)

For the record, I didn't post this to sway the deniers; I'm convinced that they will cling to anything, real or imaginary, rather than open their minds. They start with their opinion, and then pick and choose those things that support that opinion, and twist or ignore those that don't.

My only purpose in posting that is for the people who actually are able to weigh different bits of information and form an opinion. Since the review was about academic propriety, of course the people to judge that would be the people who set and enforce those standards.
