Such a nice OS!
My inlaw bought a dell laptop with w7. On turning it on it sets the OS
for the first time and asks you for a password. So he set his password.
Then it turned out the keyboard was set to Albanian (first keyboard
language option) so he changed it so the proper keyboard distribution of
his laptop (Spanish). Then he eventually turned his computer off. Next
time he turned it on he was unable to get into the system because it
kept telling him the password was wrong. We thought he had typed it
wrong, but no, getting access to the recovery tools it lets me choose
keyboard before typing the password. Tried a couple of keyboard settings
until with Albanian setting and the password that my in law had typed it
granted me access. Now trying to recover the system.
These MicroShit people are real smart professionals!

Nope, sorry. Google this problem. Nobody has it, because people tend to
pay attention when doing this sort of thing. If this guy didn't know
enough to pay close attention when installing an operating system, or
*did know enough but just didn't bother, then I have no sympathy. And if
you are condemning an entire OS on the basis of this then you're a hard
guy to please.
Anyway, my Windows 7 has a language option button on the top left of the
logon screen - was that there for you?

Hi, I beg to disagree. The password is never shown (asterisks), you
don't have an option to see it, so why would you work with keyboard
settings at all? Just take whatever the keyboard sends in the default
set (previous to installing your selected setting) and get done with it.
I'm not condemning the whole system, just wondering on how much common
sense do w7 have.
A user once complained that a program let him introduce a string in a
date field, and if he did this by mistake the system would crash. The
developer's answer was "Users are not 'supposed' to introduce strings in
a date field", your argument reminded me of him.
Many people have this problem (you said "nobody has it"). If you google
properly you'll notice a lot of people complaining they cannot enter
their w7 system. One of them said his 7 y.o. kid changed the keyboard
setting and turned down the computer and now he couldn't access to his
system. Just check it out, I spent a couple of hours googling.

Not that I noticed. Next time I have access to that machine I'll check
it out.

I blame the road construction crew if they left unreadable signs. I
blame the rcw if the orienting signs are not explicit and fool proof. I
blame the rcw if after a wrong turn there is no way to get back to the
proper route.
I blame any engineer that does not make allowances for errors.

I thought the root of the problem is that he picked the wrong region
before any of this. Yes, passwords tend to be in asterisks, this isn't
confined to Windows!

From what he described, "picked" is probably the wrong word, as it implies an active choice. What is much more likely is that he accepted the default that the setup app presented to him, which happened to be Albania. IMO, if that's the case, that's a really stupid choice for a default language, as I'm sure that the number of potential Win7 installs in Albanian is hardly the most likely scenario.
The hallmark of a good design is that it makes user errors much less likely.
