I am trying to use the "M" in format with a string in the inputmask to
restrict data entry in 1 particular field.
If I have "LIQUOR,BEER,WINE" as a literal the selection is limited to one of
the selections.
I would like to use a variable to define the selections.
Does anybody know how to format the string to use in inputmask.
I'v tried (),&
Can't get it working
Thanks Jerry

It's so much easier to just press the first letter of the desired option
than navigating the combo box.

But you can do that in a dropdown list too :)

Ok, ok I just wanted to use the "M" and string if I could.

Comboboxes work that way, too. I agree: show them the choices.

While ComboBoxes are the preferred way to do it, you can still use the M
format and a variable or property to set the .InputMask value.
You should be able to change the value of choices by just resetting the
.InputMask to a constant, variable or property.
from some method on your form:
thisform.textbox.inputmask = "val1,val2,val3"
cList = "One,Two"
thisform.textbox.inputmask = cList
etc.

Just be aware that if you use the M format, the input mask length is
limited. If it gets to be too long, VFP just mysteriously exits! Sorry, I
don't recall the length that causes that, 255 maybe?

Configure your textbox like this:
format property--------------> M
inputmask property---------> =thisform.cMask (do not forget to put the
= sign as a first character)
In your form, create a property called cMask
thisform.cMask = 'Apples, Bananas, Mangos, Oranges, Peaches'
run the form and press the space bar to change your selection or the
first letter of each option (assuming each option has a different first
letter)
