[NF] Video Editing Software

Author: Lou Syracuse

Posted: 2011-07-29 11:18:10   Link

I think this has been asked before, but. does anyone have a recommendation for a decent, low-cost Video Editing package?

I just finished a little project where I had to video tape a skit for my department, but editing it was a PITA as the only software I have wouldn't run in Win7-64bit. Fortunately I was able to run it in a virtual machine. but I'm going to transfer a bunch of our family video from tape to DVD so perhaps it is time to update the program anyway. As always, your comments are appreciated.

TIA,

Lou

I use KDENLIVE on Linux. Free, easy and really powerful. Lots of "How

To" videos on Youtube.com to help you get started.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you Lou, but I've got an old VHS tape

I use Pinnacle Studio, don't know what the price would be. Don't use it

often but very pleased with it. Also I've had some reasonable results with

Movie Maker (free with Windows!!)

If you're just doing simple editing, like cropping, resizing, applying

filters or converting to a different format (XVID etc). then

VirtualDub is pretty good:

If you want to add cutscenes or overlay graphics you'll need to look elsewhere.

Ah, I just noticed you said DVD (do people still use DVDs???).

Probably you'll need to use something commercial.

RE: [NF] Video Editing Software

I purchased a package at BestBuy last night that included a USB-based capture device and REALLY basic software. It would kinda/sorta do the job, but I'd like to do a bit more editing. One thing I liked is that it doesn't require an RF Modulator like the last capture device I had - I can plug the Camcorder straight into the box.

http://www.honestech.com/main/vhs-to-dvd-50-deluxe.asp Had performance issues on my i7 notebook (the longer the capture, the more frames it would drop), but I had no problems on my i7 desktop. Lists for $79, Best buy has for $59, but I got one for $49. Kind of a lot if you only want to migrate one tape. If you want I can transfer it to DVD for you, if so contact me off list. :)

Thanks Leland, I'll give these a look tonight. I'd like to be able to overlay graphics, but that may increase the cost significantly. :)
