OS) from a Windows XP box to a System 7 Professional box.
Thanks

1) clone the original drive to the new drive, overwriting the new system
2) upgrade to Win7 from XP on the new box
Back up the new drive first, just in case something doesn't work out.

There is no upgrade path from XP to Windows 7. Unless you want to go via
Vista, which I doubt.

I didn't make it clear (my bad) that the new System 7 (64 bit) box already
exists. The old box can hardly handle XP. But, thanks

There are lots of ways to move everything, and even some software help
from MS, but you lost most of them with that word 'easily'!
It'll probably take you at least a full day, maybe longer.

-----------------
Problem lies in the volume of software products you had installed.
I have done the upgrade from old to new and it is great with respect
to Win7 or Vista from XP. It literally make a WindowsOld folder and
probably a Program Files Old as well. It then routed in to the
current version most of what I had installed. Issue was if M$
software it rolled and all others stayed as is in older folders as I
remember.
So if you have a lot of apps it will be a little harder.
I used CCleaner to clean the registry as I was doing that I believe.
In the end I was able to nuke the older folders and had a ton of space
for use.

Oops, bad idea then, nothing to see here...

You might want to try using Laplink's PC Mover software to go from XP to Windows 7. I have used this successfully in the past. The software has an advisory screen that let's you know what needs to be uninstalled before completing the process.
