They bought this system in 92 I believe. Suddenly they have to do a
Sales report and the State Tax Audit person can't tell what year these
were sold in.
Will a FPD exe compile on Win7 64 bit. Will find out tonight.

It is true that you cannot run FPD2.5 on Win7 64.
I jumped in the seat of my old office and put the external sata drive
on it with FP, Stonefield, and my app source.
Then spent 30 min looking for the prg that is/was the menu. It has
been a long time since I have looked at that screen or any of that
code. Frightful as a matter of fact!

As several others have said, you cannot run DOS programs directly in
64-bit Windows. There appear to be two general solutions:
a) A "virtual machine", i.e., XP Mode, VirtualBox, VMWare, etc., which
involves setting up a second "Virtual" PC inside your physical system,
which contains an operating system that will run your DOS programs.
b) A "sandbox" program which creates a DOS environment directly. The
only example I'm aware of is DOSBox.
The problem with a) is that you have to buy and install the second OS,
and maintain it. Depending on which one you use, switching back and
forth can be a bit complicated. All in all, not terribly simple.
From my limited experience, b) is a whole lot simpler. Cheap, too
(it's free!). My client doesn't have a problem (yet), he's still
running Win NT! But I do, since I dumped my old laptop I no longer have
an XP machine - I'm all Win7-64. So what do I do if he has a problem?
Took me about a half-hour to download, install, and test DOXBox, and it
works just fine. Believe me, it will take you a lot longer to get XP
Mode working!
If you have an entire enterprise system of 16-bit programs then I don't
think DOSBox will do it, but in that case you've got lots bigger
problems than 16-bit compatibility.
Give DOSBox a try. (Where is it? If you can't find it via Google, you
probably wouldn't be able to run it anyway! <g>)

I assume you're referring to the need to buy a second OS. I tried XP
mode in the Win 7 Beta, so wasn't sure whether the XP came with the
package or not. In any event, if you're running XP now then you already
have one, so you shouldn't have to buy one to use XP mode.

The XP license comes with XP Mode for Windows 7 Professional or higher, and there is no additional out of pocket costs
for the download. Piece of cake to set up and it works well for FoxPro DOS apps. I use it regularly to help support our
customers.
As for using an old XP license in a different virtual technology, that depends on how it was purchased and what the
licensing states. It may be licensed to the machine by the OEM. It is not always clear how the license can be used. But
don't rely on my advice as I am developer, not a licensing guru or a lawyer, and did not read the terms you or your
customer accepted when you initialized the computer. {g}
