Hey - -- --- -
1. I (obviously) don't know what the name is of the category of
software which records your actions on the screen as a movie, and your
voice describing your actions on the computer. What is it?
2. I know we have had discussions of good products for this. (If I
remembered what it was called, I'd look in the archives!) I have a
friend and colleague who wants to make one or two of these, so is
looking for recommendations. He is still Windows-bound. Willing to
spend some $ if that is required.
Help us out?
Ken

Screencasting software, perhaps? <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screencast>

I've had good luck with Wink <http://www.debugmode.com/wink/>. It's
freeware, so the price is right, and there is even a USB version at
portableapps.com.

Ken,
For free/low-cost check out TechSmith's jingproject.com and
screencast.com.
TechSmith's Camtasia is considered by many to be leader for this type of
stuff. About $300. Have your friend try the free trial to see if there's
a fit.

I have been using Demo Builder by Tanida. It will capture full motion or
screenshots. To my surprise I found the screenshot method far superior.
The price was $200 or so and the learning curve is somewhat steep. But,
the results are very good.

I have used BB Flashback Express recently, actually to record user input
onsite to find out how to replicate a particularly obscure crash they
were having. But you can do screencasts too.

For another FREE Alternative to Camtasio - there is the open-source SW
called CamStudio - which I use - and I think it is QUITE sufficient -
and quite easy to use. And, if you make sure you download and install
their additional special video compression stuff - you will get great
results.
