Two words: Shop Magnet.

A few moments under one of the technicians monstrously powerful magnets and

the data is gone forever.

Apart from providing a great laugh from participants in this discussion, it

reminds me how a government IT man replaced our then prime minister's pc.

(mid nineties)

He then formatted the hard drive, and it went to the usual government "for

sale/tender" store.

I'm not entirely convinced.

Have you ever played with the magnets inside a hard drive?

They're rare earth magnets, placed either side of the platter.

Seriously strong, especially in older drives. How they don't effect

the data on the drive I don't know.

Personally, I hammer a nail through the drive. Easy.
