If you are 100% responsible for your code base this doesn't apply to

you. If you have to work with others this might.

The Q I have is do you separate between workspaces code that is

running and code your are developing? That may be a different server,

or a different folder on your worksation. Either way there are TWO

versions.

I wish someone would tell my java WS developer why? She fails to

listen to any argument I have.

Oh she just put the service back up.

TTFN.

Lessons I learned the hard way over 20 years.

Development

Test

Production

All 3 environments have the same exact patches/version numbers otherwise you

waste tons of time trying to figure out why it works in one environment and

doesn't in the other, and especially if you're running sql server

I wish!

This is a COBALT system with data on a or in a HP Tandum Non Stop

database. All code is running against Test right now and she will cut

it over to prod when everyone agrees.

You depend on the test or development server for PRODUCTION use? Something ain't

right with this picture.

That's because you've no doubt thrown in DotNet propaganda and she's

stopped listening to you. <gd&r>

Yeah, and something will be forgotten, or some little problem will creep in

and you'll spend more time trying to figure it out then it would have taken

to set up a proper versioning system.

You don't have to have separate servers, at least in the foxpro world.

Just create 3 separate folders and 3 separate groups within the operating

system, that way each group won't have access to the stuff they don't need,

or shouldn't touch.

Yeah I know, it probably won't happen because I too have been in your shoes

<grin>

That is why you have a test harness that you can point to ANY service

you want. Run that series of tests and say it works here and there

but not AAAA.

This isn't rocket science.
