[OT]E-Mail and other Knowledge Lifelines

Is their an e-mail find function so that I can search on the from, subject, received column(s), while live. Better still is there my desired killer app out there.

So I am reading Finance, Physics, Maths and or Software\Hardware, in and out of reference material in URL's, E-mail and attachments, Word or Open Office, Our own software source and apps, (VFP, Clipper, C) etc and I want to move information to my central data base just outside my head, where the work results can be organised , for future reference. This would requie a common directory structure in Favorites, E-mail, "My Documents" and several other places that can be updated and modified from any other in a uniform manner..
