Mail problems for the List

In case you haven't noticed, traffic on the list stopped shortly after noon Eastern time today. I've been in contact with my ISP, and they've identified the problem on their mail system. I've been told that service should be resumed some time this evening, and that any mail which has been sent will not be lost.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I've been having intermittent problems with emails the last couple of

days; my logs were showing several zero-length messages, which usually

means that something in the sequence that the mail goes through was

abending.

I traced it to a flaky SpamBayes database, and have begun re-creating

it from scratch. So what this means is that:

a) if you sent something to the list in the last few days and you

haven't seen it (check the archives), it probably got borked by the

spam filter and is floating in Bit Heaven. Please re-send it.

b) New posts may take a while, as they may get trapped by the

untrained spam filter. I will manually pull them and re-post them, but

this may mean a delay of a few hours.

Sorry for the hassles.

You better learn how to spell "dervice" correctly before you start =

getting

flip and demanding refunds, my friend. Everybody know that "Dervice" is =

a

proper name, and its first character ought to be capitalized. No go =

back

and play with your little... Wait a minute, never mind <g>...

Damn spell checker failed me again. I warned it on what's going to happen if it failed me.

Now I also request payment from humiliation damages and emotional distress caused by Mr. Hale's mean words.

Something happened Tuesday night (maybe it was the flip from June to

July), but the anti-virus program that all mail runs through started

flagging everything as infected, and so nothing came through at all. I

have it set to write the mail to a file rather than dump it, so now I

have the task of sifting through over 2MB of mbox to figure out what

is good and what isn't. I probably won't get to it until Friday, so if

you've sent something to the list since yesterday, please re-send it

if you'd rather not wait for me to find it and re-post it to the list.

I've also noticed that this clogged some log files, and it will take

me a while to clean them up, so mail may be erratic for the near future.
