Hi Everybody!
The other day I got some florescent lights installed in my new bedroom, which
used to be a lanai, known as a "Florida Room" up north. I turn them on
tonight and they have these weird snaking hot spots running around in them.
So I turn them off and then back on and they are fine.
Oh, yeah. They have "electronic" ballasts. Have to reboot them every now and
then? Maybe the software came from the third world.

Pete,
What is the temperature in your area? Some 'starters' are only
rated
for temperatures above 46 degrees. Otherwise they will not work
properly.
Just my two cents.

If it's any consolation the lights on some of the London underground
trains sometimes do the same thing! I always assumes it was a power
problem (low voltage or wrong frequency).

Hi Francis!
That is currently a sore spot. Usually it is comfortably warm here in Sarasota
but the last few days, including last night, it has been freezing. Yes, it
was below 46 in the new room, and probably below 40, when I first turned on
the light. It was most likely above that when I "rebooted" the light since I
had turned on the heat when I started working in there.

Sounds like you have what is commonly known as a 'magnetic'
starter.
That's the side effect of their more economical (read cheaper)
design.
I'm guilty of the same thing ... I now tend to turn the heat on
in the
shop about an hour before I plan to go out to play.
Best
Francis

Hi Francis!
I just turned it on after reading your message, and it came up fine. After a
few minutes being on yesterday, though, it started messing up. When it messes
up a "reboot" brings it right back. Weird.

I wonder how many of the kids have tried to eat them
so far?
