from a VARBusiness Insider email:

Offshore Outsourcing Overwhelmingly Expected To Continue

IT spending may be showing signs of improvement, but don't expect the trend toward offshore outsourcing to abate as a result. Though companies have incrementally moved IT processes such as application development, maintenance and support operations to countries with highly skilled but significantly lower-cost workers for several years, the trend has hit critical mass in the past 12 months.

I didn't complain when coal mining went offshore because I wasn't a miner,

I didn't complain when the steel industry went offshore because I wasn't a

steel worker,

I didn't complain when ship building went offshore because I wasn't a

shipwright,

I didn't complain when car manufacture went offshore because I wasn't a car

builder,

I didn't complain when TV set production went offshore because I didn't

work in electronics,

I can hardly complain now that programming is going offshore.

So true, Andy...we're blind to these things until it really hits home.

I keep thinking I should go back to school to be a teacher...that is until the Indians and others get the 'Star Trek transporter' thing working where they beam in and out daily...or perhaps educate via the TV/modem capabilities that now exist?

This is one of those things that I don't see the tide changing any time soon.

In the future, I can see that we have one of four choices:

1. Undercharge even the offshore sources. Great plan if you don't have to

eat, drive a car, have to pay for a mortgage, wear cloths,...

2. Find different lines of work; diversify.

3. Only deal with clients who aren't savoy enough to know about the cheaper

rates they can find in Mexico.

4. Use outsourcing to build up the lions share of the code and charge the

clients for tweaking.
