It's a crap shoot if the hardware will be "compatible enough" that an
OS installed on one machine will run on another. And you are
ASSuME-ing that the problem is hardware-related and not a software
configuration problem that you'll move along with your software. That
said, moving the image is a piece of cake, I've done it a couple of
times around here with nothing but a Knoppix disk. With an external
USB HDD, it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.

That said, you are far better off doing a clean install, but this is
worth a try if you so choose.
