Hi Jeff,
I just visited the WinZip Web site for the first time in years. I am still running v9.0. I can tell you I remember the emails they sent me stating new versions (incrementing major release numbers) did include upgrade costs. I consider this fair. Not telling you before the upgrade is not cool. I can see how one can easily assume based on past upgrades it would be free because the former owner did this forever. I am not saying you were assuming anything, just that I can see how people can.
Unfortunately Corel bought out the original owners (or maybe it even passed through several hands before Corel <shrug>) and they have taken a different approach. Corel is like CA and Symantec in many ways. IMO, it is where previously good software goes to die. I am sure if they have poor customer service they will eventually go out of business.

Rick: I haven't read all the posts here so I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but my situation is a little different. I have always paid for Winzip and when there is an upgrade I installed it. This recent update launched me right into the trial period. I contacted Winzip and they told me I could get a discount, but that I had to pay. I didn't see that anywhere in the upgrade and I had to recontact them to find out how much it is. I won't be using Winzip any more.
Jeff
