I always do this on any computer I have control of even if it is a single drive. I make an image using Ghost of the drive as I build the system so that if I screw up (technical term commonly used in UK <g>) at any stage I can restore to the last image and start again. I then take an image when all the updates are done so that if the system drive becomes corrupt through dodgy software, a virus or a plain screw-up I can restore to the latest image and have a clean system again. I tend to take a fresh image every month or so to take account of updates and software I've added.
