Why not use some wmi code to determine diskspace,etc ?

Thanks, those cluster roundups sound like they are probably more effort
than they are worth. I'd been hoping there was something like a quick
and dirty call to explorer methodology someone had worked out for
something else. But this sort of thing would probably be a good bit slower.

Just tested a before and after diskspace() subtraction method. To my
great surprise, it yielded extreme variation - up to 2 GB size
variation. The simple addition method is good enough, varying only a
small percentage and disks are damnably cheap on sale so the wasted
space is not worth a major development effort. I just hate to waste
space (or time) in this here continuum.
