AFAIK the current ones have a chip but no biometric data stored on it. It'll never work anyway (but it will cost us billions to find this out).
The chip only has a two year warranty from the from the vendor. Great for a 10 year passport.
30 seconds in a microwave it supposed to 'fix' it :-)
