What does that second sentence mean? Do you really just want to make
the textbox read-only?

Depending on exactly what you want to do, you may want to have more
than one textbox occupying that space on the form, and enable and make
visible only the one that is appropriate for those conditions. If you
know those conditions while the form is instantiating, you can only
add that one text box to the form. If it changes on the fly, you will
probably want to switch between different objects.
