Recently it occurred to me to check and see if anyone has done anything about getting IBM's MVS OS to run under a PC OS, and sure enough, it's been done! It's called Hercules, at http://www.conmicro.cx/hercules/
It's a whole big thing, so I don't expect anyone to rush out and buy a rack of IBM manuals, but this might be interesting for anyone with an IBM background with reason to explore possibilities. There are some products that permit file/data exchanges between, say, VFP or other MS languages with data stored in MVS, and while it's not part of Hercules, I'm pretty sure DB2 fits into this mix. VSAM comes with MVS.
