A friend of mine in the RAF married a lady from the USAF. It was the
practice, I gather, in the USAF to assume that everyone had a middle
initial. For the poor unfortunates who didn't have one they put NMI (No
Middle Initial) in that space on a form. He was determined that their first
child would be called Paul Neil Michael Ian Winder.
